Suara 1946 - Aerial Feeder Pole

Aerial Feeder Pole "Here is a shot of one of the feeder runs, before stringing the conductors. I think the lines were about twelve feet or so above ground level. I recall that when the lines were in operation we made an unsuccessful attempt to measure SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) with a clip-on RF meter. Not easy trying to read the meter through binoculars, and getting nearer on a ladder was a bit hazardous, so we didn't try again. If the transmitters didn't object, and the signals were getting out we left well alone. I can't remember if the SWBs had any form of reflectometer built in, probably not." Comments SWR - Standing Wave Ratio is a measure of the efficiency of the aerial system. SWB - is the abbreviation for "Short Wave Broadcast" and refers to the SWB Transmitters produced by Marconi. These were installed by John's group and were still in daily use when I served at Suara in 1965.
